Union Square, Aberdeen

Built by Hammerson at a cost of over £250m, Union Square is a shopping and entertainment destination comprising 525,000 sq. ft. of retail with a 10 screen cinema and 200 bedroom hotel. Located adjacent to Aberdeen Rail Station, with a brand new city centre bus station and three car parks, it is the new transport hub for Aberdeen City centre and is regenerating the Guild Street area of the city.

Opened in 2009, Union Square boasts over 60 stores and restaurants and comprises a covered mall connecting both the rail and bus stations, the new retail park element and a new public square.

Described by Hammerson, as “the best wayfinding solution in any of their malls” it displays:
- Clear and confident wayshowing within a complex retail destination and transport hub
- Effective integration of four transport hubs (trains, buses, taxi’s and links to ferry services) and three car parks into the wayshowing scheme
- Extensive coverage within the city highways signage
- Bold presence within the cityscape despite an isolated and complex location
- Innovative, high quality signage delivered within tight budget restraints
- Ongoing management issues reduced through considered product development
